Celebrating Hudson Heights

Simone Song Properties, for its 25th Anniversary on Cabrini Blvd., hosted a fundraiser for PS/IS 187. The extravaganza that included activities for children and adults took place on Sunday, December 11th, at the charming Hudson View Gardens Lounge.

We are delighted to announce that the event met its goal of raising $10,000 to fund after-school programs that had been affected by recent budget cuts.

More than 60 children enjoyed face painting, juggling, cookie decorating, neighborhood bingo and more. Goody bags provided healthy snacks for the children while the parents were served refreshments. The evening program for adults included a three-piece jazz ensemble, a professional belly dancer, 14 raffle prizes, a wine bar and wine tastings, with an endless array of different cuisines, contributed by local eateries. It was an event which brought participation from every corner of the community.

Our thanks to Councilman Robert Jackson, who was in attendance to praise the strength of the school, and spoke of how it gave his three daughters the solid foundation to achieve their chosen careers. We’d like to thank Cynthia Chory, Principal of PS/IS 187 for her immeasurable input.  We’d also like to thank Marcella Calabi, co-founder of the Hudson Heights Owners Coalition, for her insightful description of how Hudson Heights evolved. To Jay Douglas & the Friends of PS/IS 187 our deepest thanks and appreciation for their hard work, without whose participation the event could not have taken place.

Special thanks to:

- The Board of Directors of Hudson View Gardens for donating the use of the Lounge for the entire day!
- Cabrini Wines and Vines on Pine for their diverse and interesting wine tastings.
- The neighbors whose donations for raffle prizes added to the festive atmosphere: Risa Hirsch Ehrlich, The Flowing Hand, Odalis Nail Salon, Le Cheile Restaurant, Hudson Pilates, Ahn’s Market, photographers Mike Fitelson, Jordan Matter and Brian Skinner, Monarch Cleaners, and Tom Wolf of  USANA Health Sciences.
- Our friends who completed the evening with their contributions of the endless supply of delicious eats; a major thank you:  Frank’s Market, Kismat, Next Door, Bleu Evolution, Tacocina, Café 181, Vicky’s Diner and GottaGetCupCakes.

Organized in partnership with PS/IS 187, and made possible by the donations of local residents and businesses, this fundraiser will make it possible to reinstate some programs which were eliminated by the budget cuts.

With daytime activities for children, to an evening for adults, with “tastes of the neighborhood”,  including wine tastings from local wine stores, finger food from local restaurants, live music and entertainment, the goal is to create a very unique sharing experience for the community.

We at Simone Song Properties can think of no better way than this to celebrate our 25 years in the neighborhood.
